1. Sustainability matters
At the forefront of interior design in 2026 is sustainability. As we all become more aware of the impact we have on the planet through the way we decide to live our lives, our homes should be near the top of the list.
Incorporating natural and reclaimed materials is a straightforward way of making our homes more sustainable.
More impactful changes you can make include updating your windows to high-spec designs, considering renewable heating systems and upgrading your home's insulation.

2. Checks and stripes
Checks and stripes are classic patterns that never go out of style. However, in 2026 they’re going to be bigger and better than ever!
A check or striped cushion has always been in fashion but consider using these classic prints on an even bigger scale.
Striped sofas are going to be bang on trend this year and gingham curtains and duvet sets are going to be a winner for stylish bedrooms.
Living room ideas: Decor and design trends for your next renovation
This year, it's all about the bold and beautiful. Everyone wants to see living rooms bursting with colour and class. Think stylish schemes such as Scandinavian or Japandi, or bold colour pairings like teal and bronze.

3. Fluted finishes
2026 is all about refining those smaller details. Consider the different finishes you currently have in your home and think about whether or not they can be upgraded.
A fluted finish is a series of shallow grooves that run along a surface. A great example is a glass kitchen cabinet door. Rather than having plain glass, opt for a fluted glass door to add texture and visual interest.
Fluted glass is also a popular option for stylish bathrooms as it offers a level of privacy as well as looking effortlessly cool and contemporary.

4. Smart home
As the world becomes more connected, so do our homes. With most homes now having a Ring doorbell and a virtual assistant such as Alexa, it is a normal occurrence for standard UK homes to be technologically controlled.
Other smart home features include smart lighting systems, allowing you to control your home's ambience through your phone, and digitally-connected kitchens with smart appliances to create more of a practical and user-friendly space.
You can also now get furniture such as beds and side tables that wirelessly charge your phones.

5. Spa bathrooms
The post-covid effect is all about making our homes warm, cosy and ultimately a safe space. The bathroom is often one of the only rooms in the house where you can lock the door and escape reality for a short while.
Transform it into your very own at-home spa by incorporating key design elements that will elevate the space. If you’re embarking on a bathroom renovation and you have the room, opt for a stand-alone bath that exudes luxury.
Fill the space with soft mood lighting, lots of plants and a bath tray that you can lean your book on. And remember to light a candle or two!
Find bathroom fitters and fitting services near me
Whether your family bathroom has hosted way too many bath times, or your master ensuite needs a layout reshuffle, a bathroom fitter can help. Not only is it a great excuse to explore the latest bathroom products and trends, but it's also an opportunity to add value to your home.

6. Curvature
Avoid straight lines in 2026 and opt for curved edges instead.
For example, remove your interior doors and turn these openings into curved interior arches to modernise a space and make it feel more open.
Alternatively, make more subtle changes by choosing curved furniture that will make your space feel softer. Carry this through with your choice of accessories to make the room truly flow.

7. Colour drenching
Colour drenching is all about saturating a space in one colour to make a bold statement.
Previously this may have been seen as ‘too much’ or not as creative however the trend of painting your walls, ceiling and woodwork all the same colour - and accessorising with that colour also - is a brave interior move in 2026!
What colour you choose should be determined by the size of the room and how much natural light is available.

8. Minimaluxe
Minimalism has had a makeover this year. Minimaluxe lives by the same principles as the famous minimalist trend but with a luxurious twist.
It's all about curating a home design that is simple and clutter-free but with high-quality finishes. Minimalism can risk feeling uninspired and not very welcoming but it's important with the minimaluxe trend to add a touch of glamour and quiet luxury.
For example, make sure your furniture is high-quality and consider bringing in metallic elements through your fixtures and fittings.

9. Blue interiors
Blue is having its moment because of its calming and soothing properties that are reminiscent of coastal landscapes.
Dusky blue is a wonderful shade for general living spaces and practical areas of the home.
Whereas a darker shade of blue such as navy will work beautifully in bedrooms because of its dark and moody nature.

10. 3D walls
Layering textures in the home has become a way of adding style and personality to your space. We’re taking it to the extreme and we’re going to be seeing lots of 3D wall designs. This includes:
Wood panelling
Textured wall murals
3D wall tiles
Illusion paint effects
None of these wall coverings are exclusive to one area of the home. Wall panelling looks great in every room to add texture and interest.
Why not create a media wall unit in your living room and clad the wall using thin strips of MDF for a luxury modern look?

11. Neutral interiors
There is definitely a shift towards all-neutral interiors for 2026.
Inspired by creating a calming space that incorporates soothing colours and fabrics, create your very own sanctuary that will make you feel cosy and welcomed.
To avoid a neutral space feeling flat and uninspired, it’s important to introduce lots of different textures and finishes.

12. Boucle
Looking to replace your existing furniture or soft furnishings and not sure what to go for?
Boucle is a stylish fabric that is going to be an even bigger trend in 2026. You may have seen boucle armchairs and sofas but the heavy looped fabric is way more versatile than that.
Expect to see boucle curtains, cushions, throws and benches to add personality and a sense of warmth to a space. This looped fabric is a fantastic option for those considering a neutral home as its most popular colourway is beige.
