How much would it cost to convert a barn?
I often see plots of land for sale in Devon with an old barn on it that has planning permission to convert it to a family dwelling - realistically how much would it cost to do this?

It all depends what state the barn is in and how you want the finishing look to be. If you have different trades doing the work it can be more expensive, if you do most of the work you're reducing your labour costs massively. Would require more information to give an estimated cost, are you restoring old features of the barn? What state is the barn in? What finish do you want? Could cost you £30,000 or £100,000. Size of barn? There is a lot to take into account.

I have worked on a lot of barn conversions for builders and know they can be hard work. A lot of builders won’t entertain a barn conversion or will build in costs to cover themselves. There is usually a reason barns are sold with planning permission that have not been converted because the costs will be too much.
