Should I use a contractor or find individual trades for my house renovation?

I need my house renovated from attic insulation and boarding out and attic stairs. New doors and windows. New kitchen from design to finish. Complete new flooring throughout and redecoration. A small patio project and other smaller jobs throughout. Is it best to get one overall company for the job or to pick individual skilled tradespeople for each job?

Obviously, a builder will be more expensive as you will generally have VAT to pay, but they will probably get the job done quicker. Individual trades will no doubt be cheaper but more to organise for the homeowner. I would probably get quotes from both and then make the decision.
