As a general rule, you'll pay for the cost of skip hire – but how you pay for it could vary. The two most common arrangements are:

  1. The tradesperson will factor in the cost of the skip hire and include it as part of their initial quote

  2. You organise the skip hire and pay the skip hire company directly

Most tradespeople will happily organise and charge you for the skip hire. However, if skip hire isn't specifically mentioned in your quote, check that it's included in the amount they're quoting you.

How much does skip hire cost?

The average cost of hiring a skip in the UK is somewhere in the region of £125 to £320 per week.

If the skip is going to be on public land, you'll need to apply for a council permit, which will cost around £15- £60.

One of the benefits of the tradesperson organising the skip hire is that they can often get better rates. So, even if they don't initially quote you for skip hire, it's worth asking if they can sort it for you.
