Can I connect the mains gas to a BBQ grill?

I am wanting to get a BBQ Area built which will feature a traditional coal pit BBQ, but next to it (separated by a brick wall) I want to put a gas BBQ grill. Can this be connected to mains gas to save having to keep getting gas bottles? I would want a safety tap inside the house so i can stop the feed when not in use. Is this permitted?
