Day 6 - Shouting about yourself
Day 6 of 7 to becoming the boss (another step closer to that celebratory cold beer) is all about shouting about your business.

Make sure you’re shouting in the right places and in the right ears
Shout in the right place to the right people, and you'll get attention for your business.
Attention = intrigue. Intrigue = an opportunity for you to win a new customer.
You can grow your business just by being in the right place at the right time.
Marketing your business, aka blowing your own trumpet, is tough.
At the end of the day, you've got to suck it up and get your name out there. If you don’t shout about your services, no one will know about them.
Getting your name out there is vital for rolling your business down the hill of customer leads.
Sounds great. So, how do I get my name out there?
Here are the very tips you need to become a marketing pro overnight:
Create business cards and leaflets and start handing them out / leaving them in petrol stations or restaurants. Simple. There's potential for a lot of eyes to see your printed material
Set up an online presence, whether that’s through a Checkatrade profile, website, Facebook business page, Instagram account, or all five! Make sure you keep them up to date by showcasing your work. Start with a launch notice and offer free services or discounts to the first five customers
Ask family, friends and neighbours if they need anything done on their house. Use them as your guinea pigs. When working at their properties, make sure you put a board outside with your telephone number clearly displayed. When the job is done, ask your first customer to share your online platform on their social media, recommend you, and leave a review
Tap into any contacts you made during your years on the job and offer to help with their projects. Getting work from other tradespeople is a surefire way to set the wind in your sails. Consider coming up with an agreement between you both; for example, a referral fee for customers they send your way (but only if that customer chooses to work with you!)
Call current customers and see if they have any work for you – why not? You never know what a conversation can create for your business
Start local. For example, could you sponsor local events or attend business networking opportunities? It’s a great way to meet people
'Word of mouth' marketing isn't what it used to be
See how it's changed:
How to grow your business with word of mouth marketing
In this post, we'll explain what word of mouth is, how it works in marketing, and why it's one of the best ways to grow your business. What is word-of-mouth marketing? The definition of word-of-mouth marketing is when a company uses tactics to encourage customers to talk naturally about, and make
