It’s also important to remember the cost calculator doesn’t account for some additional costs. That’s up next.

Additional costs to factor into your plastering quote
Let’s look at some other costs not included in the calculator, which might impact your plastering quote.
That way you won’t get any nasty surprises later down the line:
Scaffolding hire – Your professional plasterer may need to hire a scaffolding bridge to access hard-to-reach places and ceilings. Always check if this is included in your final quote for the work
VAT – Don’t forget to check your quote includes VAT, so you don't get stung with a heftier bill later
Location – Like with most trades, you’ll find the costs are higher in London due to demand
Size and layout – The bigger the surface area that needs plastering, the bigger the cost
Finish – Premium finishes will cost more. For instance, a Venetian texture for a designer look costs between £120/m² for polished plasters and £100/m² for textured plasters
The condition of your walls – If repair work is necessary, such as filling in cracks, the job might take longer
Painting – If you opt for a standard plaster finish, you'll need to factor in the cost (and time) for painting afterwards. Don't forget to give your plasterwork three to five days to dry first!

How to save on the cost of your plastering work
Are the costs mounting up more than you hoped? Consider these ideas to make your money go further:
DIY (and learn a new skill!) – You could tackle the plastering yourself if it's a small job – though we recommend investing in some basic training first for a professional finish!
Keep things simple – Choose a basic finish rather than more designer looks such as Moroccan and Venetian textures, as these will cost more
Shop around – We recommend getting at least three quotes from experienced plasterers near you. That way, you know you’re getting the best price for the job. You might also be able to ask a tradesperson to match another quote
Take it step-by-step – Tackle the project room by room if you can’t afford to do the plastering in one go
