Do radiator reflectors work?

With 25-50% of a radiator’s surface area facing the wall, there have been many attempts to try and recapture some of that lost heat. One approach is to use a radiator reflector, which is placed between the radiator and the wall to reflect that heat back into the room.

How well they work will depend on the type you choose. Homemade radiator reflectors – usually made of foil positioned behind the radiator are one of the least effective methods. They can crinkle, crease and tear, so they may leave you wondering, “radiator reflectors, do they work?” A specialist tradesperson can provide more effective material, such as Radflek.

Also, the wall the radiator is on makes a big difference. Radiator reflectors work best when the radiator is on an exterior wall or wall with a window.
