How many bricks can a bricklayer lay in a day?

What is the average amount of bricks for a bricklayer to lay in a day?

On a standard wall with no complications, a good bricklayer will be able to lay around 500 bricks per day. There are many factors, however, that can complicate this average.

What affects the time it takes to lay bricks?

Firstly, the skill level of the bricklayer. This will have a huge impact on the rate of bricks laid.

For an apprentice bricklayer, the figure will probably be closer to 250.

There are other factors that affect the number of bricks that can be laid in a day. These include:

  • The complexity of the project
  • Weather conditions
  • The wall height
  • The use of wall ties
  • Brick pointing
  • Brickwork around windows/doors

All these factors will extend the time it takes to lay the bricks. Therefore, the more complex a project, the fewer bricks it will be possible to lay in a day.

Can I lay bricks myself?

Laying bricks yourself is possible. If you have any construction experience, then you may want to tackle a bricklaying project yourself.
