Flexibility. Plastic pipe bends around corners and through joists without extra fittings, meaning fewer joints and fewer potential leak points.

In a system with steel radiators, a steel boiler heat exchanger, or a pump, that oxygen causes internal corrosion and sludge over time, even though the plastic pipe itself isn't corroding.
Oxygen barrier pipe (sometimes listed as EVOH barrier or "barrier PEX") has an internal layer that blocks this, and it's what should be used in any sealed central heating system with metal components. Genuine heating-grade plastic pipe in the UK should be manufactured to BS 7291 and carry a Kitemark or equivalent approval.
