The best way to tile around a socket in 5 steps
When tiling in areas with electrical sockets, such as a kitchen, it’s important to tile properly and safely.
Here’s the best way to achieve a beautifully flush wall of tiling despite having sockets to navigate:
- Turn off the electrics and remove the socket faceplate so the wires are holding it in place
- Then mark and cut your tile so it just goes under where the socket faceplate would be
- With your neatly cut tiles, fit them to the wall in line with the pattern of the rest of the wall tiling
- Wait until the adhesive and grouting has set before replacing the faceplate
- Lastly, turn the electrics back on when safe to do so
Top tip: When cutting tiles, cut them from the back to reduce the chance of chipping the tile itself.
