Insulated concrete formwork cost

Insulated concrete formwork (ICF) is a type of wall-building system used in construction. It’s a new alternative to wood framing. ICF is built with hollow block components made of styrofoam which lock together. After the styrofoam moulds are erected, concrete is then poured into the moulds to form a structure. Whilst the cost of ICF used to be high, it has become more accessible as the technique has become more popular.

This guide will discuss the process of ICF and outline the typical insulated concrete formwork cost.

ICF construction cost in the UK will vary depending on the size of your project, and the property you’re building. Whilst ICF is still slightly more expensive than traditional methods by around 15% – 20%, in the long term, it is more cost-effective.

Using insulated concrete formwork can also cut between two to four months off the construction time of your home. This is because you don’t have to build exterior and interior framework, meaning construction is a lot faster and therefore cheaper. Also, ICF is more resistant to moisture, so it will not degrade like wood.

All of these factors could make ICF a more affordable and sustainable option for your home in the long run. For one m2, ICF will cost between £25 £35.

Why use insulated concrete formwork?icf house cost

If you are looking for an option that is more sustainable in the long term, ICF is the best option for you. Once the concrete has been cured in the moulds, it becomes a high strength concrete framework for your home.

ICF is very energy efficient, meaning your home can stay warmer for longer. Homes with ICF are proven to have lower energy bills than those built traditionally, with as much as a 60% reduction in bills.

Another great feature of ICF is that it is fire-resistant. If there is a fire in your home, the walls will never combust as they are made of concrete. Due to the concrete’s insulative qualities, ICF will also leave your walls soundproof.

The only drawback of ICF is if you have limited space. ICF walls need to be very thick, so if you are building on a small site this could be an issue. Whilst insulated concrete formwork costs are higher, it will save you money in the long run.

FAQs
