Just Carpentry: Bespoke storage
Eccentric shelving
This large wall unit was built for a customer who had found inspiration on Pinterest. The customer had lots of items of different shapes and sizes and so needed a variety of sizes for the shelves, somewhere to show off small books, large books, vases, pictures, nick nacks and anything else that came out of storage. The unit was built at nearly 4 metres long and just under 3 metres high.
Patrick began by drawing the design on the wall start with, confirming the openings were correct and then set to work building it on site, cutting the materials down in the cellar. The unit was fitted in a large corridor that linked the dining room through to the kitchen which meant anyone visiting would walk past it – giving that wow factor!
The project from start to finish took a week to complete and cost just over £2,000.
Walk-in wardrobe
Patrick and the team created a walk-in wardrobe for a client who had a large collection of quality shoes, boots and handbags. The shelf across the top (as you’ll see in the images below) was built just for the handbags. The wardrobe was completed as part of a loft conversion project they were completing for the client to create a full package.
As a stand-alone project, it would have cost around £1,950.
Cottage storage
Patrick and the team were asked to completely refurbish a client’s weekend retreat cottage, modernising it with a glass conservatory to the rear and moving the kitchen from one end to the other. They also replaced the heating and electrical systems throughout and replaced the bathroom as well as adding a downstairs shower and a mezzanine cloakroom.
They shared with us some pictures of the bespoke storage solutions they created in the cottage. Patrick said:
“This set of units shows how to maximise every inch of space, this project is one of my top five favourite jobs we have worked on. Using images from this will still bring work in and the clients are firm friends with us now and happily recommend us to their friends.”
With space being a premium in a cottage over 300 years old, they had to make the most of each of the eaves in each room.
