Justwood Flooring: Oak floor
As part of our bespoke carpentry series, we spoke to different Checkatrade carpentry members about some of their most memorable projects. In this guide, Justwood Flooring shared a recent bespoke oak flooring project.
The project
For this oak flooring project, the team at Justwood Flooring used Versaille panels made up of quarter sawn and rift sawn oak from Europe. This was bespoke and made in a set size to fit the shape of the room so that the floor was equal on both sides of the room and looked balanced and symmetrical.
The floor was fully bonded to a pumped screed system with underfloor heating and a mitered English Oak surround border. This was mitered in the corners and routed and joined to the floor.
The floor was then sanded and finished with four coats of Bonakemi traffic which is a Swedish produced lacquer. As well as giving the floor a stunning finish, the lacquer is also highly durable; win win!
With a team of three on the job, the project took around two weeks to install the floor, sand the floor and apply the finish. Justwood Flooring told us that the customers were very pleased with their flooring and it exceeded their expectations, with the project cost coming in at around £35,000 for the materials and labour.
