Checkatrade extends Lighthouse Charity partnership after raising over £17,000

Checkatrade has raised £17,720 since July 2024 for Lighthouse, a charity committed to supporting the emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing of the construction community across the UK and Ireland.

Fast Facts

  • Checkatrade has raised £17,720 for tradesperson wellbeing charity Lighthouse since they partnered in July 2024
  • The successful fundraising campaign included hosting its Checkatrade Awards, a charity auction, and football tournament
  • Checkatrade is extending its partnership with Lighthouse into 2025 to continue supporting the wellbeing of the construction industry

Building on this success, Checkatrade is delighted to continue its partnership with the charity into 2025, extending a rolling six-month commitment into a full year’s partnership for the first time.

Over 20% of workplace illnesses in the construction sector are linked to stress, anxiety, and depression. Alarmingly, an average of two construction workers take their own lives every week, highlighting an urgent need for better mental health support across the industry.

Lighthouse offers various support services, including a 24/7 helpline, text support, a self-support app, and access to local assistance through their Lighthouse Beacons. Checkatrade’s continued support of the charity will enable funding for these vital initiatives, ensuring ongoing assistance for the mental, physical, and financial wellbeing of those within the construction industry.

Lighthouse also runs a Wellbeing Academy that provides diverse learning opportunities, including self-paced eLearning, Lighthouse Wellbeing Exclusives and Mental Health First Aider training. Through its #MakeItVisible initiative, the charity visits construction sites across the country to engage with workers and provide onsite wellbeing support.

Jambu Palaniappan, CEO at Checkatrade, commented: “We’re incredibly proud of the funds we have raised to support this vital charity so far, but even more proud of our commitment to support them throughout 2025. Lighthouse provides much-needed support and resources to tradespeople and we are delighted to be able to partner with them once more to support them in their crucial mission to improve industry wellbeing.”

Sarah Bolton, CEO of Lighthouse, commented: “”The Lighthouse Charity is delighted to be partnering with Checkatrade in 2025. Their financial support is invaluable for our support services and provides the equivalent of 140 emergency food shops to families that cannot afford them or 160 counselling sessions to construction workers and tradespeople requiring mental health support. Checkatrade’s £10,000 donation will have a social value of £100,600.

“Just as important to us, is the opportunity to reach as many Checkatrade members as possible with our message of support so that they know – If You’re Struggling, Help is Here.. We are the only charity 100% dedicated to the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of our construction community in the UK and Ireland.”
