Although things are uncertain right now, there’s one thing we are certain of. We must all do everything we can to stay home and stay safe.
But, while we do our best to social distance and self-isolate, emergencies can still happen. You might find yourself needing to call out a trader, such as a plumber or an electrician, during this period of social distancing.
If you need emergency or urgent work, a tradesperson will be able to enter your home to complete it, providing they are healthy and no one in your household is unwell or isolating.
Coronavirus and emergency home repairs
Your safety and that of our traders is our utmost priority. That’s why we’ve created a video and gathered the following advice to help you stay safe and minimise risk if a trader needs to come to your home.
1. How are you feeling?
Before a tradesperson comes to your home, think about how you’re feeling. Are you feeling 100 per cent?
If you’re feeling a little under the weather, or you’re concerned that you may have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), it might be best to delay the work if possible. Speak to your trader and let them know how you’re feeling.
2. Be prepared
Preparation is key to minimising risk. Before your tradesperson arrives, prepare the entrance to your home, as well as the area they’ll be working in. That means wiping down surfaces and moving any furniture or obstructions out of the way. As well as making it easier for your tradesperson to work, this will also help to minimise points of contact between you both.
Of course, it’s important that you don’t try to move anything that’s too large, bulky, or heavy – just do what you can.
3. Keep your distance
As per the government’s social distancing guidelines, try to stay at least two metres away from your tradesperson at all times. This might be challenging, especially if the space they’re working in is small, but it’s really important that you keep your distance.
If your space is limited, this might mean discussing the issue with your tradesperson before they enter the house.
4. Minimise contact
Although you might usually enjoy a chat and a cuppa with your tradesperson, at the moment, it’s best to leave them to work so they can get the job done as quickly as possible. So, don’t be offended if they don’t want to chat and likewise, don’t feel rude for not offering them a brew.

6. Leave online feedback
