Carpets are a staple in almost all British homes. But they’re notoriously difficult to clean; mainly because they have to stay in place!
Here, we’ll examine how often you should clean your carpets. This isn’t just key to ensuring that your home looks and smells great, but also for eliminating dirt, bacteria and allergens.
How often should you vacuum your carpets?
First things first, vacuuming. This is the easiest kind of carpet maintenance and the one you should do most often. In fact, staying on top of the vacuuming is key to a long-lasting carpet.
It’s generally recommended that you vacuum at least once a week. However, if you have children or pets, you should be vacuuming at least twice a week (and ideally every day!).
Cleaning your carpets daily can massively reduce the dirt and allergens in your home, especially if there are pets and kids running around or you wear shoes in the home.
How often should you clean your carpets more deeply?
Of course, vacuuming won’t be enough to properly get rid of all the dirt, bacteria, dust mites and allergens that can accumulate in your home over time.
For that reason, most carpet manufacturers recommend that you get your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year.
That said, busy homes benefit from getting their carpets cleaned at least twice a year. And, if you have kids and pets, at least every three to six months is best.
Although there are many carpet cleaners on the market that you can use to deep clean your carpets yourself, a professional will know how to properly care for your carpets.
This includes not just cleaning, but also preserving and treating them. That way, you’ll have the ultimate peace of mind knowing your carpets are in safe hands.
