My monobloc mixer tap is leaking: do I need to replace or repair?

Have you got a monobloc mixer tap that’s started to leak? If so, you’ll want to know whether to replace or repair it!

Can I repair a leaking monobloc mixer tap?

This depends on where the leak is coming from and the type of taps you have.

If you have a monobloc mixer tap that swivels left and right for hot and cold, it will be more difficult to repair.

Similarly, if the leak is coming from the lever itself, you will probably need to replace the tap. You may be able to replace the cartridge, but this will depend on whether they are still available.

If, on the other hand, you have a monobloc mixer tap with separate hot and cold taps, it will be easier to source a replacement cartridge.

Likewise, if the leak is coming from the neck of the tap, it will be far easier to repair. Simply turn off the water supply, unscrew the screw behind the tap, remove the neck and replace the O rings.

When do I need to replace a leaking monobloc mixer tap?

As mentioned above, if the leak is coming from the lever part of the tap, you will likely need to replace the tap.

Most monobloc taps contain ceramic washers instead of rubber washers. Unfortunately, these types of washers are difficult to replace so you will probably need to replace your taps.

If you’re experiencing problems with your plumbing and you don’t feel confident tackling the job yourself, it’s always best to hire a professional.
