16 concrete driveway ideas for 2025

Looking to have a concrete driveway installed? Take a look at our concrete driveway ideas for inspiration.

Concrete driveways are highly durable and are said to last between 30-50 years. This makes it a great option for a low maintenance, more affordable driveway.

Although concrete driveways are less likely to be affected by the weather, they can become easily stained, so it’s worth being aware of this.

If you’re considering a concrete driveway but aren’t sure where to start, check out some of our favourite concrete driveway ideas below.

Concrete driveway designs

Concrete tiles

Looking for concrete driveway options but not sure where to start? Mimic the look of paving slabs by choosing to split up your concrete driveway into individual blocks.

You can play with the proportions of the slabs depending on the length and width of your driveway. This creates a similar effect to real paving slabs but can be at a fraction of the price.

‘Grasscrete’

What is ‘grasscrete’ you may be thinking? It’s a driveway that’s made out of permeable concrete that allows grass to grow in between the voids of the slabs.

It’s probably not the best idea if your driveway is busy and you want to park multiple cars on it. However, if there’s a section outside the front of your house that doesn’t get used too often, this could be an attractive alternative. It can also help with natural drainage.

Brick border

Bricks are a timeless option but it can be very expensive to have a brick driveway. Opt for a happy medium by installing a concrete driveway and using bricks as a border.

Incorporate borders

Whatever you choose to do as a driveway border, be aware that it’s a good idea to create a visual contrast. A simple way of doing this is choosing a lighter wash of concrete to act as a border without having to invest in different materials.

Stained patterned design

Concrete can be stained. Use this to your advantage when designing your driveway. For example, this doesn’t just work with creating a border, you can also add patterns to the middle or all over your driveway.

A nice simple design is creating a diamond shape in the centre of your driveway in a contrasting colour and using this same colour around the edge.

Horizontal slabs

Simple concrete driveway ideas include adding some visual interest by breaking it up a bit. Mimic the look of oversized horizontal slabs to make your driveway appear wider than it actually is.

Concrete driveway edging ideas

Wooden edging

Edge your concrete driveway using wood or timber. You can create planters out of wood that will bring some colour and life to your driveway that will undoubtedly up your kerb appeal.

Concrete pavers

Use concrete pavers to edge your driveway and to add some visual contrast. One solid slab of concrete can feel quite flat and dull. To avoid this, you could edge your driveway with a border made up of concrete pavers.

Edging stones

Cobblestones can be quite an expensive addition to a concrete driveway but they are definitely worth it. They come in lots of different shapes and colours that will make your driveway truly unique to you and your home.

Source some secondhand or ask your local landscaper to see if they can source some for you.

Gravel

Like cobblestones, gravel is a fantastic option for edging as it comes in lots of different shapes, sizes and colours. It’s super easy to install and you will likely be able to do this yourself.

Brick

Brick is a costly material but is no doubt a timeless one. Although it only comes in traditional colourways, it’s a design staple that will add a stylish touch to your concrete driveway.

Landscape edging

Durable driveway materials aren’t the most attractive thing to put at the front of your home but you can soften the look of a concrete driveway by using plants and greenery as a border.

Ferns, grasses and hostas are fantastic options for bordering as they offer greenery all year round.

Stamped concrete driveway ideas

stamped concrete

Stamped concrete can create a similar effect to other more expensive materials such as stone or brick. Concrete can be a more budget-friendly option for driveways and requires little to no maintenance. Here are some stamped concrete ideas to inspire you:

Herringbone pattern

Herringbone is a stylish pattern that has come back into fashion and is definitely here to stay. It brings a sense of style and luxury to any part of the home and a driveway is no exception.

Paving slabs

Create the look of paving slabs with stamped concrete to make your driveway look more expensive than it is. Choose a design that you love and that you won’t get bored of.

Abstract design

You can create any sort of design with stamped concrete. It doesn’t have to be neat or uniform. If you prefer more of an abstract look, then opt for hexagon-shaped slabs or even random shapes that have no pattern to them, aka crazy paving.

Brick effect

Concrete stamped with a brick effect is a classic option that would suit more traditional style properties.

It’s a more affordable alternative to real bricks but creates a very similar effect.
